Barbra Streisand plea to end the slaughter taking place at the Yulin dog meat Festival
Barbra Streisand sent out a press release saying “I would like to join with Humane Society International in its effort to draw world attention to the barbarity of an annual festival in China celebrating… yes, celebrating… the human consumption of dogs.”
“Dogs became domesticated, became in every true sense our best friends, very early in the evolution of our species. Part of human civility is that we don’t condone the slaughter of our best friends.”
Humane Society International (HSI) along with celebrity supporters like Ricky Gervais have been raising awareness for years.
Hollywood directs the world’s attention to China’s inhumane dog and cat meat trade. They also bring to light the horrendous Yulin dog meat festival.
During the festival over 10,000 dogs and cats are tortured and slaughtered for human consumption. China as a country slaughters over 30 million dogs and cats each yar.
Star power has had enormous effect when over eleven million people signed a petition started by HSI
In 2014, Peter Lee of HSI delivered to China, a petition signed by over eleven million people. The petition asked the Chinese government to stop the festival, but the “festivities” is still are taking place.
“It is important that pressure has been brought to bear both inside and outside of China. This scrutiny has already reduced the number of our beloved friends who perish in this tragic event,”
Dogs, give us unconditional love. You don’t kill anything that gives you unconditional love, added Streisand.
