This poor Cat was Seconds Away From Being Slaughtered By The Yulin Festival Butchers But, HSI Arrived Just In The Nick Of Time
Her photo broke the hearts of millions and, it immediately went viral. Hense this poor cat became a symbol of the sickening Yulin Festival in China.
The Yulin Festival created in 2009 was to usher in and, celebrate the start of the summer solstice. This Poor Innocent Cat named Huru made us aware that this festival was only celebrating death. In the ten days the festival lasts, thousands of cats and dogs are slaughtered for food.
The picture was taken in 2015 and, it caught the fear and hopelessness that all these animals must feel. Her eyes showed she understood she was facing certain death at the hands of the Yulin butcher.
The photo of this poor innocent creature desperately trying to escape her fate, made us feel as helpless as she did.
A Cat’s Wish Comes True.
It would have taken a miracle to save her and on this day. But Huru had a guardian angel close by to grant her a last second reprieve.
Huru’s angel came in the form of a volunteer helping The Humane Society International (HSI). HSI is one of the biggest organizations fighting to end cat and dog meat consumption throughout Asia.
HSI saved Huru but, she was one was one of the rare few who escaped the Yulin slaughter house.
Huru’s last second reprieve from the Yulin chopping block, she was sent to an Animal Rescue shelter in Washington.
The pair was welcomed into a facility filled with love, rather than death. Their temporary home contained only warmth, rather than the harshness found in Yulin.
Peter Li, HSI’s China Policy Specialist, and a leading voice to end Yulin sent out a Huru Update.
