The moment Yulin Festival Rescue Organizations claim “Animals” in your name, and you don’t save Cats as you do Dogs. Then you are perpetuating a lie to elicit donations.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with rescue organizations choosing Dogs over Cats. If that is their focus then that is their right to do so.
But rescue organizations using “animals” in their name, or claiming your rescue organizations “Humane” or Fighting “Abuse” then you are blatantly lying to get more donations.
Each year in China Millions of Cats and Dogs are slaughtered for human consumption. Throughout Asia, up to 10 million cats and dogs are tortured and slaughtered for food.
Cats endure the same torture being perpetrated on Dogs. Cats can feel the same cold hard steel cutting into their flesh as much as any dog does. But some rescue organizations give lip service to cats hoping to rake in donations from millions of cat owners.
These rescue organizations know full well they will rescue as many dogs as they can. And also know they will abandon every cat and kitten to the Yulin butchers.
Cats and Dogs
It’s estimated that 78 million dogs and 85.8 million cats are owned in the United States. Approximately 44% of all households in the United States have a dog, and 35% have a cat. (Source: American Pet Products Association 2015-2016 (APPA))
An Associated Press poll reveals that more people like dogs than like cats. In a survey of just under 2000 people, 59% of who were pet owners (mostly of dogs or cats) 74% said they liked dogs “a lot” but only 41% said the same thing about cats. Only 2% said they disliked dogs “a lot”, but 15% feel that way about cats.
There is no doubt that dogs are much more social than cats. Dogs also communicate much better with Humans than do cats. This fact leads to the like/dislike answers from above.
If a dog did something wrong they exhibit behaviors that border on”Guilt”. Cats do something wrong and they are almost perplexed by a human’s reaction.
The biggest difference is when comparing cats and dogs and how they interact with Humans. Cats behavior often demonstrate their desire to lead a solitary life. They only want to be paid attention, on their schedule, not their human owners.
Dogs, on the other hand, can’t seem to get enough attention. Dogs also have the ability to mimic our feelings. When we are sad they seem to want nothing more than to cuddle close to us, lending us their emotional support. When we are happy they bounce around like puppies.
Dogs Show Them The Money
While it’s a fallacy. Humans feel without us close by, a Dogs would roll up in a fetal position, wither away and die.
Humans feel an almost symbiotic relationship with dogs and this creates a more emotional response from people when they see these Yulin animals being tortured. So there isn’t any doubt why Dogs generates much more in donations than Cats.
Doing a Google search for “Yulin Cat rescue organizations” and you’ll see this list pop up
- Animal Hope and Wellness – I can’t recall them ever saying even ONE cat from Yulin.
- Vanderpump Dogs – Vanderpimpin the dogs ain’t easy… But shockingly to us, they are not guilty of exploiting cats.
- Bo Ani Animal – We address this below but at least they are honest when they list themselves as Dog (and Cat) rescue organization. Clearly, they are showing ‘Cats’ are secondary to dogs and is not their main mission.
- Animal Rescue Site – Seems to be a shopping page where they donate a portion of the pet product sold toward organizations that save animals in Yulin and elsewhere.
- HSI – Humane Society International. – Yes, they do rescue cats but at a far less rate than they do dogs. At the 2016 Yulin festival, HSI for every 29 dogs rescued, they saved just one cat. In Yulin, the cat death rate runs about 20% when compared to dogs. HSI’s 3% cat rescue rate leads to only one conclusion… Window Dressing!
Companies that are benefiting financially off millions of Cat owners is disgraceful.
Cat lovers generously donating their money in the belief that rescue organizations will be helping cats as well as dogs, have no idea that these “Animal” rescue organizations have no intention of doing anything of the sort.
While it may be easy to blame Google or Bing, the fact is the company use keywords, descriptions, titles, Image Alt text, to tell Google what their site is focused on. Then Google algorithms determine the worth of your site and how and where it should get listed.
There are also organizations that come out and claim they are saving animals in newspaper reports or in interviews. Knowing they focus on dogs and care little for cats.
I could better understand this exploitation of cats if Yulin didn’t exist, but Yulin does so we are addressing it because when a crate of cats goes unreported or unsaved, even though it’s inches from a crate of dogs, it’s blatant that these “Animal” rescue organizations care more about donations than they do about “animals.”
How can you declare yourself “Humane”, or an “Animal” rescue organization and not save a crate full of Cats?
- Doesn’t it feel pain?
- Isn’t it as scared as a dog?
- Isn’t what they do to cats considered Abuse?
- Doesn’t a cat want to live as much as a dog?
- Doesn’t a Cat scream out in pain when it has its legs chopped off?
- When a Cat is thrown into a boiling pot of water doesn’t it try to escape?
While organizations such as Bo Ai Animal listed their organization as “animal” rescue, going to their site you can read what their mission is about.
“…to take a stand against the dog meat trade in a different way.” “
“By not paying money and buying the dogs from the butchers… rescing dogs (and cats) or by just going to protest there.”
When (Cats) are listed this way. Placing (Cats) in parentheses shows Bo Ai is clearly stating that their focus is on Dogs. If the situation arises they would probably save cats, but Dogs are clearly their priority.
You’ll see below that we listed VanderpumpDogs in the “Not at Fault” section. Clearly, by our reporting, we have had major issues with this rescue organization. But we deal with facts and we will not let our bias sway our reporting.
While Animal Hope and Wellness being similar to VanderpumpDogs. Nevertheless, they were added to the blatantly lied section because of what they stated in interviews.
In a story printed in Bark magazine Marc Ching was quoted as saying
Every rescue organization has its focus. At Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation, we specialize in abuse.”
Aren’t these cats suffering abuse? I assume your answer would be no since AHWF has not rescued one cat in Yulin. What makes them even more shameful is the fact that Marc Ching stated that every rescue has its focus.
Knowing full well AHWF focused only on Dogs and then saying you specialize in “Abuse.” By not having saved one cat in Yulin that makes AHWF the worst of the worst for blatant dishonesty
Humane Society International lists their site as an organization that is one of the only global animal protection organizations working to help all animals
This statement is true. Unfortunately, when Cats make up 20% of the deaths in Yulin and HSI is only saving 3% in a city where they can easily achieve more. Then they are only rescuing cats as window dressing and hopefully fool cat lovers to donate.
Facts are facts whether EndYulin likes them or not. HSI is a favorite of ours but that doesn’t let them off the hook for being dishonest about their cat rescue operations.
Writing and pushing stories such as Huru. They are doing so for one purpose, to gain the trust, backing, and donations from Cat lovers.
If HSI believed they would receive the same amount of donations, then they would have honestly written. “We are in Yulin to save dogs and the occasional cat.” But since they didn’t, then the consciously made the choice to exclude keywords that would show their true mission statement.
Not at fault.
If you Google Yulin Cat rescue organizations Say No To Dog Meat comes up #1 but this is a paid ad. Knowing Adwords and Adsense such as I do, their name popped up, because they are asked to provide a list of keywords and a description. Writing “10,000 cats and dogs are slaughtered each year at the Yulin dog and cat meat festival” is 100% true and honest.
In no way is NTDM being dishonest, clearly, their name pretty much spells out what their organization does.
As with NTDM, Vanderpump Dogs being listed on Google is not their fault. This is another case of Vanderpump using the normal description of Yulin that led Google ranking them in our search.
Honest To Oneself
Rescue organizations like Soi Dog, No Dogs Left Behind, No To Dog Meat their names alone tell you exactly what they are focused on. Donors looking to generously offer a gift knows their mission statement is “Rescuing Dogs.”
While I am sure these organizations have compassion for all animals. Anyone who donates knows their money will be used for the sole purpose of rescuing dogs.
Some rescue organizations like Duo Duo Project, while their name does not specifically address their focus. Looking into the company for only a few seconds, you would find Duo Duo was named after a rescued dog from China.
If Rescue Organizations call themselves an Animal Rescue, or Humane Society then they should care and rescue all animals, not just the ones that will bring in the most money.
Please Note: for the Marc Ching cult who will no doubt believe this story was nothing more than a hit piece. I will save you from looking even more foolish. We had a series of articles in 2015 and 2016 that called out Animal Legal Defense Fund for this exact same reason. They were rescuing Tigers and lions but left behind 300 animals at a roadside zoo.
Tigers and Lions bring with it a press release which in turn bring in donations. A peacock and a bear do no such thing. Our reporting (Over 15 articles) reflected the blatant hypocrisy. They were called Animal Legal Defense Fund, not Donation Generating Animal. You can view those stories here
